Fuji Syuusuke[a_reason_to_smile_] a Fuji one-shot

"Careful, it's that girl again."

"Oh god. Don't go near her. She's scary.

"She smiles so much it scares you out of your wits!"

"It's weird how she doesn't talk much to people, even though she smiles so much, isn't it?"

"She can talk? I thought she can only smile!"

"Yeah of course she can. She's a TENSAI! In studies and in tennis!"

"She plays tennis too?"

"Yeah! She's nationally ranked and one of the best in Japan." I appeared out of nowhere and cut in.

"Oh wow... That's s- ARGH! How did you get here?!" Both of the students freaked out and ran away like crazy. I shook my head and smiled.

Yeap. Those are the normal things I ALWAYS hear whenever I walk past people. Normal, yes. I hear it every single day. I've already memorised it and sometimes I cut in and finish it for them, like just now. Then they get so freaked out they run away like hell. I love seeing them run, it gives me so much pleasure. But, I've done it so many times it doesn't appeal to me anymore. Now I just do it when I feel like it. And, it's no fun if I don't do it myself.

But anyway, my name is Yushidare Konoka, and I'm 14. My parents always work OT, and sometimes, they don't even come home for a few days. Either that, or they're always overseas. But anyway, I go to Seishun Gakuen school, or Seigaku, and I'm a regular in the girls' tennis club. I joined the tennis club in my 2nd year, and won every single match I'd ever played. Come, I'll let you in on a little secret. I'm a much better tennis player than the captain. But she doesn't know it yet, 'cause I refuse to play a single game with her. She's so bloody full of herself that I hate it. The next time there's the ranking match, I'll make sure I play with her, AND I'll win her 6-0. But for now, I'll let her have her fun. Hell, that'll show her to be so cocky to me. She makes fun of everything I do, even my appearance. She says my hair is cut so short it sticks up everywhere like a broom. But I like how it sticks up, and I don't give half a damn of what other people think. She says I'm a tomboy because I always wear the guys' uniform. I wear it because I HATE skirts with an undying passion. She says I'm a weirdo because my eyes are two different colours. Weird? Yeah. One eye is yellow and green, the other is yellow and blue. Half-half. But I like it, and am dead thankful my parents gave me this eye colour.

And my smile.

I smile 24/7, or what people say. Sounds familiar?

Of course.

Syuusuke Fuji, the tennis prodigy with his triple counters. Come closer, I'll tell you something. He's my bestest friend. Tell you something else- we're both immune to Inui's vege juices. Surprised? Heh heh heh know you would be.

We both are always together- and when we are... you people better watch out... MUAHAHAHAHA.

Oh look! Here he comes now. Hehe I'm gonna surprise him. I saw Fuji walking down the corridor, and hid behind the nearest pillar, preparing to jump onto him when he walked by. Well, he did walk by, and I did jump on him, but-

He turned around as I jumped, so instead of jumping onto his back, I landed right on him. He caught me in his arms and steadied himself from falling backwards due to the sudden increase in weight. He smiled at me and chuckled.

"Saa~ Konoka-chan, doijobu deska?" He set me back to my proper position.

"Ne, daijobu." I smiled brushed my shirt to straighten it, seeing that it was all crumpled up. He continued smiling. Like hell, he should make SMILING hes speciality in tennis. Well, if you ever wonder how we became friends, even with all his 937646585021732 Fangirls, we met during a tennis practice, and I accidentally drank the Inui juice. Everyone gasped in horror and waited for me to collapse. When I didn't collapse, and even said it was nice, Fuji came up to me and asked if I liked it too. That's the short story, I'm WAAAAAY~ too lazy to repeat the long story.

"Class's starting. Let's go." Here's another piece of news- we go to the same class. And so is-

"KONO-CHAAAAAAN~! FUUUUUUUJI~! You're here!" An excited redhead bounded towards us. He glomped both of us together, and my face bumped into Fuji's.

"Eiji... Get off." We both gasped.

"Eiji, they can't breathe." Oishi came in. Yeap, Oishi was in our class too.

"Ah. Gomen gomen nyaa~!" He let us go, and we gasped for breath.

"Do that again, and I'll personally ask Inui to make you a new vege juice that's even worse than his last one." I threatened. Eiji turned white- he knew I always mean what I say. I remember it so well- the last time he drank the Inui juice.

"Uhh..uhh... N-no thanks." He gulped. Guess he must've remembered it too.

"Inui's juice isn't really that bad really." Fuji said innocently. I sniggered, and Eiji sweatdropped.

"Heh heh heh." He laughed nervously. The teacher came in, and lessons started.

After school was tennis practice. I joined the guys for practice. Last time I'd requested to join the guys team for practice, and I was allowed. But I only took part in the girls' ranking tournaments, and only went back to play with them occasionally (The girl captain said I was flirting with the guys and other more horrible stuffs behind my back. I heard every single one of those rumors, but I cared about neither one). I didn't bother bieng a regular in the boy's tems, I prefered just practicing with them. They're really good- a hundred times better than the girls. I'd improved loads more with them than with the girls. I can safely say that I can play a game with Fuji until tiebreak, then it depends. But I've won against him before- without him letting me win(Or, that's what I think).

Back to practice.

Tezuka-bouchu and Ryuzaki-sensei aren't here yet; Momo and Kaidoh were quarrelling(as usual), and Oishi-fukubouchu is trying to calm them down; Eiji was prancing about and cartwheeling everywhere; O'chibi was fiddling with his racket while drinking his ponta; Taka-san isn't in his burning mode yet, and he's talking to Fuji; Inui was writing down stuff in that little green notebook of his. One day, I'll take that notebook from him AND read it's contents aloud to everyone. Fuji noticed me and smiled. He walked over to me just as Tezuka-bouchu and Ryuzaki-sensei came.

We all gathered and Tezuka-bouchu explained what we had to do. Gah. 20 laps under 1 minute and a few 3-on-1 matches, 50 balls to return. For those who cannot make it, it's the new Inui juice.

Everyone sweatdropped.

"Some practice eh, Konoka?" Smiled Fuji.

"Yeah." I smiled back.

Throughout practice, I saw loads of people falling victim to Inui's juice, and unconscious bodies piled up. I purposely fumbled at my 50th ball just to try the Inui juice. It wasn't that bad actually, just a little stronger than usual.

After practice, Taka-san invited all of us over to his sushi restaurant for sushi. I agreed at once- it was better than going back to an empty home, and Taka-san makes the best wasabi sushi! Fuji agrees with me at this too. So, all of us(minus Tezuka) trooped to his sushi restaurant.

"Taka-san makes the best wasabi sushi!" i bit into a wasabi sushi. Everyone eyed me nervously, except for Inui and Taka-san- Inui was still writing down stuff in his green book. Probably that I could down 5 wasabi sushi in one breath, or that I didn't have to drink any water after eating all that 5 wasabi sushi. And Taka-san looked proud that I praised his sushi.

After everyone finished eating, Fuji suggested we play a game. I seconded the idea by suggesting "Truth and Dare". Fuji smiled at me, while everyone else sweatdropped. I guessed they were afraid of what I was gonna dare them. I rubbed my hands together and flashed them my evilest smile. Ooooh SCARY.

I set my waterbottle in the center of the table we sat around, and spun it. It landed on Ryoma.

"NYAA~~! O'chibi got it!" Eiji sang.

"Hn. I don't wanna play."

"Saa~ You have to." Fuji smiled.

"Whatever."

"I'll give you an easy one. Truth or dare?" I smirked.

"Dare." He answered simply.

"Right. Then I dare you to... finished this ponta." That was really easy- Ryoma loved ponta. He finished it in one gulp.

"Hey! You gave him an easy one nya~!" Eiji complained.

"It's just the beginning Eiji." I gave him an evil smirk. He shrank back in fear.

Ryoma spun the bottle next, and he got to dare the next person. The bottle landed on Momo.

"Heh. Momo-chan-senpai. Truth or dare?"

"Oi Echizen! Give me an easy one, ne? Dare." He smirked.

"Iie, Momo-chan-senpai. Eat that wasabi sushi." Ryoma pointed to an exceptionally B-I-G wasabi sushi. Oooh Ryoma's evil too! Momo sweatdropped.

"Uhhh... uhhh.. Alright then." He gulped and put that evil-looking wasabi sushi into his mouth. His eyes closed into a pained expression as he chewed, then swallowed.

"GGAAAHH!!! WAAAAAATER!!! I NEEEEEEEEEEEED WAAAAAAAAATER!!!" He covered his mouth and rushed to the washroom. I winked at Fuji, the only other person in this room who could stand wasabi sushi. He smiled at me.

Momo didn't come back after some time, so we continued the game without him.

Everyone gave crazy dares, which got crazier and crazier each time. For example: kiss the cactus; pinch Oishi's cheeks; do a handstand; hop on one foot for 10 mins; and hug Kaidoh. The truths weren't that bad, just- lame. Example: Does Fuji have bad breath; how many bags of wool does baa baa black sheep have; read out the first page of Inui's notebook. Those really kept everyone laughing, except Kaidoh, but I swear I saw him truing his best not to laugh.

Then, the bottle landed on Fuji, who, obviously, chose dare.

"Fuji! I dare you to... Kiss Konoka!" Eiji sang.

"Only if she agrees." He smiled at me. I didn't hesitate to answer.

"Why not? I'm game! But, you really don't have bad breath right?" Everyone, including Fuji laughed at this. He got up and walked over to me.

I tried to look serious, but failed and ended up laughing. I didn't notice Fuji coming closer and closer to me, but I did notice-

"WOOOOTS~! Kono and Fuji sitting in a tree! K-I-S-S-I-N-G!!" The other regulars sang. Fuji's lips were on mine.

My eyes stretched open to see his closed ones so close to my face. His lips were so soft, so sweet, and they tasted faintly of wasabi. My heart pounded at 98372782747364743beats/min, and I closed my eyes. Plus point: He really dosen't have bad breath.

All too soon, he pulled away and smiled at me. One part of me didn't want it to end, another part of me kicked that part for thinking like that, another one wondered why I felt like that, yet another wanted to know how he felt, and the last one was deciding which part to show. So, I kicked away everything in my head and just smiled.

Throughout the game, millions of thoughts ran through my head. Would he like me? Maybe he does, that's why he kissed me. But what if it's only just for the dare? Gah. Why do I even FEEL like this? He's just, my friend, right? A normal, tensai, sadistic... best friend. Nothing more. Argh YUSHIDARE KONOKA! You're losing yourself. Stay focused... Focused on what? Bleah whatever.

After bidding Taka-san and the rest goodbye, I walked back home.

It was getting really late, so I decided to take the path through the park, it was so much faster.

Suddenly, a brilliant flash of lightning lit the area and a gigantic roll of thunder signaled rain approaching. I hurried to get back home, I knew rain was approaching, but I didn't know it would be so-

Rain suddenly poured down.

-fast.

"Damn. Forgot my bloody umbrella." I hid under a tree, trying to shake off the raindrops that fell on me. Suddenly, it stopped raining all around me. I was surprised, because I could still see rain around me. I looked upand saw an umbrella, I turned and saw-

"Daijobu deska?" Fuji smiled at me.

"Yeah. Couldn't have been better. Hey! You're not shading yourself! You'll get wet!" I tried to push the umbrella over to him.

"Then we'll have to squeeze together, won't we then." He smiled as he pulled me closer to his body by my waist. I was almost as tall as him, being just 2cm shorter, and my face was inches away from his. His beautiful icy blue eyes were opened, and they stared deeply into my muti-coloured ones. My heart was pounding so loudly I could've sworn it wasn't the thunder.

"Guessso... Just now, why'd you do it?"

"Because... I felt like it..." He closed his eyes, leaned forward and I felt his soft lips on mine. His hand holding the umbrella released its grip, and the umbrella fell to the ground. He wrapped his arms around my waist, now already drenched with rain water. But he didn't care, and neither did I. I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him closer and deepening the kiss. A kiss that was so sweet, so innocent, so romantic, so right, a kiss in the rain. I kicked myself for not noticing he was always there for me all the time. Then, it hit me- I smiled all the time, because Fuji was my reason to. With him around, everything would be right, and nothing would matter any more. Fuji was my reason to smile.

Fuji smiled all the time, because-

-I was his.
